Global Refugee Forum

The world's largest gathering in support of refugees and the communities that host them.
UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi (front-centre, crouching) meets a group of 70 young refugees attending the Global Refugee Forum in Geneva.

The Global Refugee Forum is a central arrangement to the Global Compact on Refugees.

Every four years, it brings together States, refugees and host communities, development actors, the private sector, civil society organizations, faith-based organizations, international organizations, cities, municipalities and local authorities, academia and researchers, parliaments, sports organizations, and others who have a role to play in supporting refugees.

The Forum is an opportunity for stakeholders to share good practices and pledge financial support, technical expertise and policy changes to support comprehensive responses for refugees and ultimately the objectives of the Compact.

The first Global Refugee Forum took place in Geneva from 16 to 18 December 2019, was attended by more than 3,000 participants, and resulted in some 1,400 pledges of financial, material, technical, and policy support and places for resettlement or other pathways to solutions.

Where do we go from here?

The true success of the Global Refugee Forum lies in high quality pledges that put in place the support and arrangements needed for the international community to share the responsibility for hosting refugees equitably over the longer term. It will also be key to advance the implementation of pledges already announced, particularly through support for the implementation of inclusive policy pledges, and ensure good practices are sustained and replicated. This is a collective effort that requires the cooperation and engagement of all stakeholders.

This has the makings of a success. Making it a success is incumbent on all of us.
