Description
A greenhouse built next to Osmaniye Temporary Accommodation Centre enabled refugees to grow vegetables and receive on-the-job training.
Project aims
The project aimed at enabling the fast production of vegetables to cover the needs of the refugees living in the temporary accommodation centre in Osmaniye and developing the capacity and skills of 150 Syrian refugees in greenhouse vegetable production and greenhouse technology.
Resources used
The project was funded and implemented by the Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in collaboration with the Directorate General of Migration Management (DGMM) of the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry with a budget of $ 460,000.
Main activities of the Good Practice
The project provided materials, equipment and technical support to establish a greenhouse of 0.8 hectares in the premises of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry Oil Seeds Research Institute, which is located near the temporary accommodation centre in Osmaniye. The project enabled the fast production of vegetables for the refugees living in the temporary accommodation centre. The opening ceremony of the greenhouse was held on 12 December 2018 in Osmaniye.

Results of the Good Practice
150 participants were awarded certificates from the Turkish Employment Agency (İŞKUR) upon the completion of their on-the-job training, which could enhance their employment opportunities.
