UN Stocktaking Event – May 2021
UN Stocktaking Event – May 2021
Two key pledges were made at the December 2019 Global Refugee Forum: the “common UN pledge” made by UN Agencies; and the “IASC pledge” made by members of the Inter-Agency Steering Committee. Both pledges commit UN entities to consider refugees in their analyses and plans, and to advocate with host Governments to facilitate refugees’ inclusion in national systems. In May 2021, a virtual stocktaking event took place, co-convened by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) and the United Nations Development Coordination Office (UNDCO).
This was an opportunity to review what works, the challenges, and the way forward to the next Global Refugee Forum in 2023. At the event, the importance of coming together as a UN family to deliver on the pledges and advance refugee needs and inclusion was emphasized, especially in the difficult times resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic.
