Duration
We have been partner with UNHCR for 4 years. We will continue the partnership until 2030 where we get 1 million women and girls coders.
Description
Post Pandemic iamthecode will continue its well-being clubs, mentoring sessions and coding classes. All the curriculum will be digitalised to support the refugees to get more content. Connectivity will be our focus. We have also launched a Podcast for young girls to express themselves and interview leaders and guests visiting the camps. We hope to use the connected spaces to continue our training with Coursera and IDEA.org.uk- We offer Well-being Clubs and mentoring programs to Refugees, girls in slums and Favelas.
Project aims
To enable women and girls to learn how to code but have their well-being taking care of. We also have mentoring programs where boys are included.
Resources used
We had policies that ensured the refugees well-being is taken into account.

Challenges and how they were overcome
Challenges
We had challenges with connectivity, infrastructure and access to a dedicated team to continuously work with us.
How they were overcome
UNHCR allocated a good team to work with us in Kakuma.
Results of the Good Practice
Teachers have been supported with the iamthecode content. iamtheCODE aims to work with UNHCR Kakuma to map the technology infrastructure. With the iamtheCODE well-being clubs and mentoring programs, refugees are more confident. They feel included and reassured within their communities. They have conversation around mental heath, climate change and leadership.
Next steps
The project will be continued and extended to other camp, once this pilot is completed in Kakuma Refugee Camp.
Further support required for the project to continue or scale up
We would like to have a support from the communication, education and protection teams. We need funding to run our activities for example logistics and operations.
