Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), announces the National Health System Inclusion pledge at the Global Refugee Forum 2023

At the Global Refugee Forum (GRF) 2023, the multi-stakeholder pledges National Health System Inclusion and Fostering Mental Health and Psychosocial Wellbeing brought together stakeholders to enable equitable access to strengthened health and MHPSS services for refugees and host communities. The roundtable for governments on 25 March will build on the momentum of the GRF and feed into the preparation of the High-Level Officials Meeting that will take place in December 2025.

Objectives

  • Review progress on pledges aiming to advance inclusion of refugees in national health systems and foster mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS), with insights on opportunities and challenges from host and donor country perspectives.
  • Facilitate the exchange of best practices and promote innovative, scalable solutions to advance health inclusion and MHPSS effectively.
  • Foster multistakeholder synergies by encouraging transformative partnerships, joint implementation of initiatives and responsibility sharing.
  • Propose concrete steps for scaling up successful approaches and ensuring the long-term inclusion of refugees into national health systems.
  • Use roundtable outcomes to contribute to upcoming high-level international meetings and policy discussions, including the High Level Officials Meeting in December 2025.
