This EARIN event will consist of three segments, each with ample time and space for debate of participants. The three segments will revolve around:

Temporary Protection: current situation and future perspectives

This segment of the EARIN conference aims to take stock of what Temporary Protection has meant for refugees from Ukraine until now, how it has been implemented and how it will evolve as the current expiry date is nearing. Confirmed speakers include UNHCR and DG HOME representatives, as well as input from Refugee Led Organisations.

Temporary Protection: building knowledge

This segment of the EARIN event aims to discuss major research and data challenges Temporary Protection presents. It brings in conversation academic with policy research and discuss gaps and synergies between scientific and policy research. Confirmed speakers include academics focusing their research on the implementation of temporary protection at national and/or EU levels, EU level and national level civil society organisations, including Refugee Led Organisations, as well as data experts from UNHCR.

How does Temporary Protection affect the education of refugees from Ukraine in Europe?

The segment will focus on the educational challenges Temporary Protection holders are facing as a result of forced displacement. The panel will address the following questions: Is access to education guaranteed in all hosting countries? What are the major barriers to enrolment and studying? How many TP holders are entering school education and higher education? And what are universities doing to address the challenges? Confirmed speakers include Ukrainian students accessing higher education in Europe, representatives of the European University Association, and academic leaders from universities hosting large numbers of Ukrainian students.
