Background

With millions forcibly displaced due to conflict, persecution, and climate-induced crises, the global displacement crisis demands urgent, integrated solutions. The Global Refugee Forum (GRF) highlights the need to advance the humanitarian, development, and peace (HDP) nexus approach to address the needs of displaced populations and their host communities while preparing for future displacement risks. Climate change adds a new layer of complexity, increasing the urgency to develop sustainable and scalable financing mechanisms for crisis situations. The private sector is essential in scaling up solutions, mobilising resources, creating inclusive economic opportunities, and driving innovation. Its collaboration with public and multilateral financing actors offers transformative potential for displaced and host communities.

Purpose of the Roundtable

The roundtable will convene key stakeholders to explore how HDP nexus financing can better support displaced and host communities. By showcasing practical examples of how integrated financing can leverage and multiply investments in durable solutions and mitigate displacement risk, the event will emphasise private sector engagement and innovative financing models to achieve scalable and sustainable solutions, in line with GCR objectives and UNHCR’s new Sustainable Responses approach.

Objectives

  1. Strengthen alignment and collaboration: Facilitate dialogue on key principles of integrated HDP financing for more holistic and sustainable solutions.
  2. Showcase innovative financing models: Highlight effective, replicable models of integrated financing
  3. Leverage private sector engagement: Explore how private investments and partnerships can enhance resilience and create inclusive economic opportunities.
  4. Foster partnerships: Strengthen collaboration among governments, donors, finance actors, international organisations, private sector actors, and civil society to advance HDP financing solutions.

Key Topics and Structure

The roundtable will feature expert panels, high-level discussions, and interactive sessions, focusing on:

  1. Integrated Financing Models:
    • Case studies highlighting successes, challenges, and scalability.
    • Role of innovative financing tools in supporting HDP approaches.
  2. Finance Actors and Private Sector Engagement:

    • Examples of private sector-led initiatives and public-private partnerships.
  3. Partnerships and Policy Coherence:
    • Strengthening collaboration among HDP actors.
    • Fostering policy coherence for impactful, sustainable outcomes.
